1. Brazoria National Wildlife Refuge

Located close to the city of Galveston, Brazoria National Wildlife Refuge covers an area of almost 45,000 acres and was established in 1969 as a protected habitat for local bird species and migratory waterfowl. During the winter months, this place welcomes tens of thousands of geese and ducks, making it a true paradise for wildlife watchers and photographers. For anglers, Brazoria National Wildlife Refuge offers fishing opportunities all year long, mostly along the Bastrop Bayou and Salt Lake areas.

Getting to Brazoria National Wildlife Refuge from downtown Manvel takes about 45 minutes by car, driving along State Highway 288. Once you get to the designated fishing areas, some of the fish species you will find include redfish, spotted seatrout, black drum, flounder, and sheepshead. Keep in mind that boat fishing is only allowed on Salt, Lost, and Nicks lakes, where public launch areas are available. 2. Lake Houston

Getting to the fishing areas of Lake Houston from the city of Manvel takes about 50 minutes by car, driving north along State Highway 288 and route I-69. 3. Brazoria Reservoir

Located close to the town of Lake Jackson, Brazoria Reservoir has a surface area of a little under 2,000 acres and is home to large populations of channel catfish, largemouth bass, and blue catfish. This body of water is primarily used for industrial water supply purposes, although it is becoming an increasingly popular recreational spot among visitors from the Houston area. Getting here from Manvel takes about 45 minutes by car, driving south along State Highway 288.
